Join us in |12| and |13| as we discuss the ins and outs of paramedic school with a recent graduate, along with how all the work paid off when the time came to perform.
Airing on 02.11.2020 and 02.13.2020, we sit down with Chris Bowman (a recent paramedic school graduate) and discuss his experience while in paramedic school, and things for incoming students to keep in mind. From maintaining perspective, relationships with preceptors, and focusing on the training at hand, Chris shares some insight while it's still fresh.
In part 2, we discuss Chris's first call as a paramedic- a cardiac arrest that toned out just a few hours after he received his state numbers, that presented with several interesting challenges.

Thursday Jan 16, 2020
Thursday Jan 16, 2020
In this episode, we discuss treatment recommendations found in recent literature, in regards to fluid administration in septic shock. We also discuss the updates to the definition of sepsis, and the criteria for diagnosing a patient with sepsis. In this episode, we discuss SOFA, and QSOFA, as well as the elimination of SIRS and "Severe Sepsis" from the sepsis spectrum.

We discuss how third spacing occurs secondary to overzealous fluid administration, resulting in potential worsening of hypoperfused tissues and organs. In this episode, we also discuss the ProMISe, ARISE, and CENSER trials, and discuss the suggestions of early vasopressor therapy using norepinephrine has proven to be beneficial. We also briefly discuss the potential benefits of pre-hospital administration of broad spectrum antibiotics, and the Phantasy trial, and propose to revisit a similar study with more objective methods.

Thursday Jan 09, 2020
Thursday Jan 09, 2020
Join us in Episode 8, as we sit down (on location) with Dr. Nathan Creel and Kyle Gibson, AGACNP (Northeast Georgia Medical Center: Trauma and Acute Care Surgery), and discuss the importance of blood product replacement in resuscitation of traumatic patients. In this episode, we discuss how we (EMS) have been giving crystalloid fluids for treatment during hemorrhagic shock, leading to the detriment of our trauma patients. In the words of Dr. Creel - "If the patient is losing blood, the best fluid replacement is blood."
Join us as we discuss the pathophysiology of hemorrhagic shock, the history of blood infusions, and why it is imperative to move towards a paradigm shift of moving towards pre-hospital administration of blood products in the field of EMS.

|6| Strength in Numbers [Featuring Chad Black, NRP]
Thursday Dec 26, 2019
Thursday Dec 26, 2019
In this episode, we discuss the benefits of membership in professional organizations for licensed EMS personnel. Join us as we welcome Georgia EMS Association Chair Chad Black, as we dive in to examples of benefits that every listener across the country should be seeking out in their individual states, provinces, territories and regions through affiliation in professional organizations. Chad also shares incredibly valuable experience from his years of leadership in various EMS agencies, as he worked his way from an EMT on the ambulance, to paramedic, to Battalion Chief and regional manager (air medical) to Director of Emergency Services.
We discuss ways professional organizations provide benefits ranging from continuing education opportunities, leadership and development training, pensions and retirement, to political and legislative representation on Capitol Hill (Senate Bill 102, alongside our very own, Jason Grady).
We round out the episode by discussing Chad's involvement in working towards administering whole blood in the pre-hospital field throughout certain regions of Georgia, and the steps he and those involved had to take in order to get the pilot program approved and off the ground.
